Barbour is a torchiere-style wall light by Quoizel, distributed in Europe by Elstead Lighting. A long vertical stem in a weathered brass finish has a clear middle section and a clear, flattened-sphere detail just below the lampholder. A white fabric shade sits on top, and a short arm joins the stem to a round wall plate.
How big it is and where it fits
The fitting is 67.6 cm tall, 20.3 cm wide and projects 23 cm from the wall. It is a tall, narrow silhouette, so before installing it is worth checking that a clear strip of wall of that height remains around the connection box – the stem runs well below the wall plate and the shade rises above it.
It weighs 1.4 kg. It is a Class I fitting, which means the circuit at the mounting point must have a protective earth conductor. The manufacturer specifies it for interior use only.
What light it gives
There is one E14 lampholder for a bulb of up to 40 W. No bulb is included, so one has to be bought separately – for this model the manufacturer recommends a clear candle-shaped LED lamp, sold on its own. You therefore choose the colour and brightness yourself; 2700–3000 K gives warm, slightly yellowish light close to a traditional incandescent bulb.
The fitting is compatible with dimmable lamps, so with a dimmable bulb and a dimmer switch the brightness can be turned down. The white fabric shade hides the bulb from the side, so it does not glare into the eyes of someone sitting next to it.
What kind of interior it suits
The manufacturer describes Barbour as a modern wall torchiere meant to be a distinct accent on the wall. The warm tone of the brass, the clear section of the stem and the plain white shade keep the form light despite its height of almost 70 cm. The frame is made of steel and the shade of fabric.
It is intended for living rooms, bedrooms and dining rooms as well as hotel and restaurant interiors. Within the Barbour family the same model also comes in Harbor Bronze and polished nickel finishes.
