PORTOFINO is a chandelier built from 44 glass globes radiating from a single centre – a form 65.5 cm across on a black-chrome frame, suspended from an adjustable rod reaching up to 300 cm.
44 light points is not excess but a different principle
Each of the 44 globes carries its own G9 source of 2.2 W and 250 lm. Together that is about 11,000 lm from just under 97 W – a figure that in a single shade would call for an industrial fitting. But the point is not the total: 44 small sources light a room evenly and softly, with no single dazzling point and none of the hard, singular shadows a chandelier with one powerful bulb casts.
Smoked glass and a polarising effect
The shades are smoked glass. Unlit, the form reads as a dark, graphite cloud of spheres that does not pull the eye; lit, each globe becomes a warm, muted point. The manufacturer calls this a polarising effect: the glass surface refracts light differently depending on the viewing angle, so the piece does not look the same from two sides of the room.
Adjustable drop to 300 cm
The suspension shortens and lengthens over a range reaching 300 cm. At this diameter the fitting is intended for a large dining table, a stairwell with a mezzanine, or a living room with a high ceiling – three metres of rod lets it come down low in a double-height space, and shorten to a minimum under an ordinary ceiling.
Dimming and bulbs included
The fitting is dimmable, which matters with 44 points: full output is light to clean and work by, dimmed is dinner at the table. The G9 bulbs are supplied, so the lamp works as soon as it is installed. Worth knowing, though: the manufacturer excludes replaceable light sources from the 5-year warranty – it covers the structure and finish, not the bulbs.
