Bayview 1 Light Medium Wall Lantern - Black Elstead

Bayview is an outdoor wall lantern from Elstead Lighting's own range, in the medium size of the family. A classic four-sided lantern with clear bevelled glass panes hangs beneath an ornate arm curled into a scroll, which is screwed to a flat wall plate. The body is cast aluminium in black with a slightly textured surface.

Size and fixing to the wall

The lantern is 33.4 cm high and 18 cm wide, and projects 22.5 cm from the wall. Compare these figures with the space by your door: the width decides whether it fits between the frame and a downpipe, and the projection whether it gets in the way when the door swings open. It weighs 1.99 kg.

The wall plate is flat, so the lantern goes on a straight stretch of wall. For an external corner the manufacturer offers the separately sold C-BKT5-BLACK corner bracket. The fitting is Class I and must be connected to a protective earth conductor.

Outdoors and the light source

The IP44 rating means protection against water splashed from any direction, so the lantern can be fixed to a facade, beside an entrance, on a terrace or on a garden-facing wall. Cast aluminium does not rust the way steel does, which matters for a light that stays out in the rain all year.

Inside there is one E27 lampholder for a bulb of up to 60 W. No bulb is included. The panes are clear, so the bulb is on show — an LED filament bulb suits it well. The lantern is compatible with dimmable bulbs, provided the circuit has a dimmer.

Style

The manufacturer describes Bayview as a lantern in the Georgian spirit. Its classic form comes from the tapered roof, the turned columns at the corners of the panes and the scroll-shaped arm — details that suit period terraces, country-house styles and traditional buildings.
