Bayview is a medium-sized exterior pedestal lantern from Elstead Lighting's own range. The cast aluminium body has a black finish, clear glass with bevelled edges fills its four sides, and a domed roof with a ball finial crowns it. The form draws on classic Georgian lanterns.
Dimensions and where to fit it
The lantern is 39.3 cm tall and 18 cm wide, and weighs 1.53 kg. It stands on a hexagonal base, so it is placed on a flat surface — for example a low wall, a plinth or a gate pier. Before buying, check that the top of the mounting surface is at least as wide as the base.
Weather resistance
The fitting is rated IP44, which means protection against water splashing from any direction — rain does not harm it, but it is not suited to places where it would stand in water or be hit by a jet. The manufacturer specifies it for exterior use. It is Class I, so it must be connected with an earth conductor.
Bulb and light
The lantern has one E27 lampholder for a bulb of up to 60 W. The bulb is not included. The glass is clear, so the bulb stays visible through all four sides — a decorative bulb with a visible filament suits it, and the light spreads sideways, lighting the area around the lantern. The fitting is compatible with dimmable bulbs; dimming requires a dimmable bulb and a dimmer.
Where it fits
Its classic, English-style form suits a garden and a boundary with brick piers, as well as the surroundings of hotels and restaurants.
