Hand-blown glass

Each piece is made in India by traditional glassblowing. That technique leaves small traces of its own making: individual air bubbles caught in the wall, gentle ripples across the surface, and slight differences in colour depth between one glass and the next. These are not faults — this is what glass looks like when it has not been machine-pressed. Worth knowing if you are ordering a set: six glasses from the same run will resemble one another without being identical.

Ribbing and light

The vertical ribs do two jobs. Optically they break light into bands, so whatever is in the glass — water, lemonade, a cocktail — gains depth and reads more interestingly than it would in smooth glassware. Practically they give grip: fingers settle into the grooves and the glass does not slide out of the hand, even when it is beaded with condensation from a cold drink.

The smoky charcoal tone

The colour is fused into the glass itself rather than applied to the surface, so it will not wear off. The smoky, neutral tone sits well with earth-toned ceramics, wooden boards and linen table settings — while staying transparent enough that the level and the colour of the drink remain visible.

Uses

The tumbler suits water, juice, iced tea, lemonade and short cocktails. Its low, wide form handles ice cubes comfortably and works equally for desserts served in glass — mousse, panna cotta, or fruit with yoghurt. Away from the table it is often used to hold tealights, cocktail sticks, or small items on a bathroom shelf.

Care

Hand-blown glass is best washed in lukewarm water with a mild detergent and a soft sponge; a washing-up brush will reach into the grooves. The manufacturer makes no claim about dishwasher safety or thermal shock resistance, so do not pour boiling water into a cold glass or put it in the freezer.
