METRIC S pendant lamp - white

METRIC S is a pendant lamp built from an open cube frame of slim metal rods, 35 cm to a side, finished in white RAL 9003. Inside the frame a single E27 lampholder hangs on a black braided cable with the bulb left exposed. The cube itself is suspended on four thin wires clipped to its top corners.

How big it is and where to hang it

The cube measures 35 cm in every direction, so the lamp looks the same from all sides and can hang in the middle of a room rather than only against a wall. Compare that with the width of the surface below: over a table 80–90 cm wide a shade of about 40 cm diameter holds the proportion, so METRIC S reads there as a single accent rather than as lighting for the whole tabletop.

Hanging height is set by the length of the four support wires and the centre cable. Above a dining table the bottom edge of the frame usually ends up 70–80 cm over the surface, which keeps it out of the sightline of people sitting opposite each other.

The light source and what you need to buy

The fitting takes one bulb with an E27 thread rated up to 60 W. No bulb is supplied, so you choose brightness and colour yourself: around 800 lm matches the old 60 W incandescent, and 2700 K is warm, slightly yellow light close to a traditional bulb.

The frame has no shade and no diffuser, so the bulb is visible from every side and its look is part of the look of the lamp — you pick it along with the colour temperature. For the same reason the light spreads in all directions instead of being aimed downwards, and dimming depends on the bulb and the dimmer in the circuit.

Build and the rest of the series

The frame is metal, painted a single white RAL 9003; the same model is also made in black RAL 9005 and gold RAL 1111. The black braided cable is the only dark element and stands out against the white rods.

METRIC S is the smaller of the two pendant versions — the series also holds the METRIC M pendant plus table and floor models. The related TRIMETRIC line is built on a triangular body instead of a cube. The lamp is made in Poland.
