Modena Big 3012BG is a classic-style lantern head: a hexagonal lantern with clear panes, a roof ending in a spire and a decorative crossbar below the body. The cast-aluminium body is black with a green patina, and the diffuser is clear UV-stabilised polycarbonate. This is the luminaire alone, made to sit on a pole — the pole is bought separately.
Which pole and how tall
Norlys pairs this head with the Lamppost 3010 pole to make the Modena 301 set. On the maker's drawing the complete lamp is then 1.93 to 2.83 m tall, because pole 3010 is adjustable — set the height to suit the width of the path or drive and where the light should come from. The head ships in a 55 × 43 × 28.5 cm carton.
The terminals take conductors up to 4 × 2.5 mm² and let you feed the next lantern from this one (loop-through up to 4 × 2.5 mm²), so several lanterns along a path can run on one cable. The gland takes a cable 7–12.5 mm in diameter. The luminaire is protection class II, so it needs no earth conductor, and IP54 protects it against rain from any direction.
What light it gives
Inside is an E27 socket for an A55–A60 shaped lamp, LED up to 9 W. No lamp is included. Norlys gives a dimmable 806 lm / 8.5 W / 2700 K LED lamp as an example — as bright as an old 60 W bulb, with the warm, yellowish light people expect from a traditional lantern. The panes are clear, so the lamp is visible and the light spreads sideways around the pole rather than only downward.
The user changes the lamp. If the diffuser is ever damaged, Norlys lists it as a spare part (service kit 06380004), so the whole head does not need replacing.
Where it fits
Green patina over black and the hexagonal lantern with its roof give the look of a traditional park lantern. It suits the garden of a classic-style house, a terrace, a garden path or the entrance to a property.
