Recessed Downlight SLV NUMINOS DL L Black/White 25.41W 4000K 1003962

NUMINOS DL L is a round recessed ceiling downlight with a black 13 cm trim ring and a deep white reflector. Its integrated 25.41 W LED module delivers 2450 lm of 4000 K light in a narrow 20° beam. The fitting runs on a 700 mA constant current and no driver is included — it has to be chosen separately.

Driver and control

This is a protection class III luminaire: it is not connected directly to 230 V but to a constant-current LED driver. According to SLV's instructions, the driver must supply 700 mA and at least 25.4 W. Among the accessories SLV lists drivers rated 21–29.5 W 500/600/700 mA, 30 W 700 mA and 40 W 700 mA with a DALI interface.

The fitting itself is not DALI-capable, so dimming depends on the driver you choose. A 10 cm lead ending in a connector comes out of the fitting, and the manual allows 20 to 200 cm of cable between driver and luminaire, which sets how far from the opening the driver can sit above the ceiling.

Installing it in the ceiling

The fitting needs a round cut-out of 11.7 cm and 9 cm of free space above the ceiling. It is held by two spring clips which, according to the manual, grip boards from 7 to 25 mm thick — a range to compare with the thickness of your own ceiling. Below the ceiling only the 0.5 cm trim ring remains visible.

SLV's accessories include 240/120 mm reducing rings that cover a larger opening, and clip-on diffusers: prismatic, frosted, elliptical and honeycomb.

What light it gives

4000 K is neutral white light without a yellow cast. A colour rendering index of CRI 90 means colours under the fitting look almost as they do in daylight. The 20° beam is narrow and lights a clearly bounded area, so the downlight is better at highlighting specific spots than at lighting a whole room evenly. UGR 19 is the glare limit applied to office workplaces.

The LED module is built into the fitting and, according to SLV, can only be replaced by a professional. The producer states a service life of 50,000 hours at L80B50: after that time half of the fittings still deliver at least 80% of their initial flux. For this article SLV specifies IP44, meaning protection against splashing water.
