Remyck floor lamp - 1 light source - Brushed gold Elstead

Remyck is a 148.8 cm floor lamp whose conical steel shade hangs from a right-angled arm, set off to one side of a slim tubular column. Column, arm, shade and the flat disc base are all steel, finished in brushed gold. The range is designed by Alora Mood and reaches Poland through Elstead Lighting.

How much room it takes and where to stand it

Base and arm together give a depth of 30.9 cm, and the shade is 22.9 cm across. The lamp weighs 3.4 kg, so it stands securely but can be moved with one hand. Its 148.8 cm height is about one and a half times a bar counter - worth comparing with the back of the armchair or the edge of the table the shade is meant to reach over.

That offset is what decides the layout: the base can stand beside a piece of furniture while the light falls over it, without moving the chair or the side table. The manufacturer files this fitting under dining rooms, but the same geometry works beside a reading chair.

The light it gives and the bulb to buy

The fitting has one light point with an E27 socket and takes a bulb of up to 60 W. No bulb is included, so the colour and brightness are yours to choose - for reading, around 800 lm is the usual pick, the equivalent of an old 60 W bulb.

The conical shade is opaque and open only at the bottom, so the light comes down in a narrow, concentrated cone onto the surface below rather than spreading around the room. The fitting works with dimmable bulbs but carries no dimmer of its own - the control has to come from the bulb and a dimmer in the installation.

Build and the Remyck range

The body is steel, intended for indoor use only, runs on 230 V and is built to protection class I, which means it needs an earthed socket. The manufacturer covers the lamp with a two-year guarantee.

Remyck is a whole family sharing the same conical shade: besides the floor lamp there is a table lamp, a wall light, a pendant and a three-light chandelier, each in brushed gold and in matte black. That makes it possible to put several fittings of one form in a single room.
