The Colonial placemat from Bazar Bizar, code BAGE001NBr, is a single round mat woven from rattan in natural brown. It measures 35 cm across and 1 cm thick. It is one placemat, not a multi-piece set.

How it sits under a plate

A 35 cm circle fits inside a 35 by 35 cm square. A typical dinner plate is about 26–28 cm, so a few centimetres of weave remain visible around the rim. Two 35 cm circles need 70 cm of clear width before any gap is added. On a 75 cm tabletop only a few centimetres of spare width remain, so measure the place setting before ordering several pieces rather than assuming cutlery will fit between the mats.

The 1 cm thickness lifts a plate only slightly off the surface. The manufacturer lists a weight of 0.22 kg. The shape is fixed: the mat does not fold or shorten.

Handwoven rattan

The fibre is rattan, worked in a spiral from the centre to the rim. Each piece is made by hand in Indonesia, so shade and weave density can vary slightly within the same Natural Brown colour. The photographs show a tight, fairly stiff weave with no fabric cover and no removable sleeve.

Meals indoors

The manufacturer states that the mat can take both hot and cold dishes. It suits breakfast and dinner at a dining table or a kitchen table. There is no claim of resistance to rain, frost or prolonged sun, so it is not a terrace mat. The care note explicitly says to avoid excess moisture and long exposure to sunlight.

The round outline follows a round plate. A pot wider than 35 cm will rest on the table beyond the mat — this piece does not replace a larger trivet.

Care and look

Clean the rattan with a soft, dry cloth or a brush, without soaking it. Moisture and strong sun can weaken and dry out the fibres. Carry the mat flat so the weave does not deform. There is no information about a dishwasher, machine washing or a protective coating, so do not assume those treatments.
