SLV MERIDIAN BOX Outdoor Wall Light with Motion Sensor, Anthracite, E27, IP54 230085

MERIDIAN BOX 230085 is an SLV outdoor wall light shaped like a rectangular box: an anthracite aluminium frame holds three opal polycarbonate panels, one at the front and one on each side. A hidden microwave motion sensor inside the housing switches the light on when someone approaches.

Size and mounting

The light is 38 cm high and 13.5 cm wide, and projects 14 cm from the wall. It weighs 1.7 kg. The maker intends it for wall mounting only, on a fixed connection to the 230 V supply. It is a protection class I fitting, so it needs an earth conductor, and the connection should be made by a qualified electrician.

IP54 means protection against dust and against water splashed from any direction, so the light can hang outdoors without a canopy over it. Impact rating IK02 protects the housing against light knocks only. SLV advises cleaning it with a damp cloth, never with a pressure washer, and not sealing it yourself with silicone.

The motion sensor and its settings

The sensor works on microwave (high-frequency) detection and cannot be seen from outside. Three settings are made during installation: the detection range in five steps from 100 to 10 %, the on-time from 5 seconds to 30 minutes, and the dusk threshold from 50 down to 2 lux, or off. That lets the light, for example, come on only after dark and go off a minute after the last movement.

What light it gives

The fitting has one E27 socket and takes a lamp of up to 25 W. SLV lists the LED T38 E27 8 W, 3000 K, CRI 90 (a separate article, 1005289) as the recommended lamp, so colour temperature and brightness come with the bulb you choose. Light leaves through the opal panels on three sides, both directly and indirectly, and also lights the wall around the fitting.
