Kichler: ceiling fans with light, from Ohio
Kichler Lighting is an American company from Solon, Ohio, and a division of Coleto Brands. It designs and makes indoor lighting, outdoor and landscape lighting and ceiling fans for homes and commercial spaces. Its own site gives 1938 as the founding date. Kichler says its ceiling fans combine style and function with technology, in designs that range from modern-inspired to traditional and classic.
Why a ceiling fan with a light
A ceiling fan moves air around the room: in summer the downdraught gives a cooling breeze, and many models also run in reverse to push warm air down from the ceiling in colder months. With a light kit built in, the same fitting takes the place of the central ceiling light. Kichler fans for European markets are built for 220–240 V mains and are distributed in Europe by the British company Elstead Lighting.
Kichler at Lunares
The Kichler range here consists of ceiling fans with light, many of them with an integrated LED light, for example in warm 3000 K, and other fans. Finishes include brushed nickel, white, oil-rubbed bronze, wrought iron, weathered zinc and antique silver and brass tones. Some models are rated for covered outdoor spaces such as a veranda or a covered terrace.
How to choose a ceiling fan
-
Blade span and room size. Fans come in blade spans from compact models of around 76 cm to large ones well over 150 cm. Small rooms need a short span; open living spaces and terraces benefit from a large fan that moves more air at low speed.
-
Ceiling height. Blades should hang well clear of the floor and furniture. On a high or sloping ceiling, a downrod brings the fan to the right height, and an angled mount handles the slope.
-
Indoor or outdoor. Check the IP rating. IP20 is for dry indoor rooms, while models with IP23 or IP44 can go under a canopy or on a covered terrace.
-
Light and control. Decide whether you need a fan with a light or only a fan, and check how it is controlled. Many models have several speeds, a reverse function and a remote control.
-
Noise. In a bedroom, a quiet motor matters more than top speed, so check the stated noise level.
