Interiors: Tiffany lamps and brass classics

Interiors is the name behind a collection of traditional decorative lighting: Tiffany-style lamps in leaded coloured glass, brass fittings and fabric lampshades. It is lighting for rooms with character – a period hallway, a reading corner, a dining room with dark wood – where the lamp is meant to be looked at as much as used.

Coloured glass, metal and classic shapes

In the classic Tiffany technique a shade is built from many small pieces of coloured glass, each edged with copper foil and soldered to its neighbours, so the light glows through a mosaic of amber, green, red and blue. Small differences in the glass from one shade to the next are part of the style. The glass designs carry names such as Dragonfly, Botanica, Hutchinson, Astoria, Willow, Ashton and Sullivan. Alongside the glass, the brass families – Stanford, Penn and Winchester among them – bring warm metal and traditional outlines to pendants, wall lights and floor and table lamps, while the Cici lampshades in beige or grey fabric dress a lamp base in a quieter way.

Interiors at Lunares

At Lunares you will find Interiors Tiffany pendant lights, some with three lamp holders under one large shade, Tiffany ceiling lights and flush ceiling lights, Tiffany table lamps and floor lamps, together with brass wall lights, pendants and standing lamps and a range of fabric lampshades in several diameters.

What to check when choosing a Tiffany lamp

  • Mood light, not task light. Coloured glass holds back a lot of light. Use a Tiffany lamp for atmosphere and pair it with a brighter ceiling light or a reading lamp where you need to see detail.
  • Bulbs. The lamps usually take E27 bulbs (some smaller table lamps take E14), typically up to 60 W per lamp holder, not included. A warm 2700 K LED bulb brings out the colours of the glass and runs cool, which is kinder to glass and solder.
  • Size and drop. Shades are usually 40–50 cm across. Some pendants have an adjustable drop, for example 60–100 cm on a Dragonfly pendant, so measure the height over your table first.
  • Installation. Ceiling and wall fittings run on 230 V and should be connected by a qualified electrician; table and floor lamps simply plug in.
  • Care. Dust the glass with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid ammonia, abrasive cleaners and spraying liquid onto the shade, which can dull the solder lines.
