Mareco Luce: Italian outdoor lighting since 1973

Mareco Luce is an Italian lighting maker from Bertinoro, in Emilia-Romagna, and it states that it has been making lighting since 1973. Its founder, Roberto Maretti, began in the 1970s by selling illuminated advertising signs to hoteliers on the Riviera. That coastal start shaped the company. It took up plastic materials early to avoid the oxidation that salty sea air causes on metal, and from there it moved into indoor, outdoor and street-furniture lighting. Today its range runs from residential outdoor lights through urban and industrial lighting to architectural projects.

Simple lines and the sphere

"Simplicity is strength" is how Mareco Luce sums up its approach: pure, simple lines and an essential design. The sphere is the brand's lasting signature. Globe lights in white diffusers for wall, ceiling and post mounting are a category of their own, while newer families add sinuous lines and curved light bodies. Finishes are restrained, mainly white, grey, black and anthracite, with Corten on some bollards. DELUX 360° has a UV-resistant transparent PMMA diffuser, and BRIDGE a white PMMA diffuser on a reinforced thermoplastic bracket that the maker recommends for salty coastal air.

Mareco Luce at Lunares

At Lunares you will find Mareco Luce garden lanterns and post-top heads for lighting poles, surface-mounted outdoor luminaires, sealed IP65 LED flush ceiling lights for porches and bathrooms, and accessories such as single and double swivel pole heads.

What to check before buying

  • Mounting. Post-top lanterns need a pole and a matching head; wall and ceiling models fix directly to the building. Check the pole diameter that a head fits.
  • Light source. Some families take a replaceable E27 bulb, which lets you choose the brightness and colour; others have integrated LED in 3000 K or 4000 K.
  • Protection. Look at the stated IP rating – IP54 for sheltered spots, IP65 where the light faces driving rain or spray.
  • Coastal and sunny sites. Plastic and PMMA parts do not rust, so they are a sensible choice near the sea or by a pool.
  • Glare. An opal globe spreads soft, all-round light. For a path or driveway, a fitting that directs light downwards keeps glare out of neighbours' windows.
