Open Design Highlights: classic lines from a Polish lighting maker

Open Design Highlights is a Polish lighting manufacturer based in Chwaszczyno, in Pomerania in northern Poland. The brand, which used to trade as Orlicki Design, makes lamps for people who value simplicity and good design. In its own words it is known above all for classic forms, gives the Hamptons style a special place in its range, and also offers modern collections. What ties them together is a kind of classic minimalism: calm silhouettes, careful detailing and finishes you will not tire of after a couple of seasons.

Materials and finishes

Open Design Highlights works with metal, glass, fabric and aluminium. Cream-white fabric shades are paired with chrome, satin gold or satin nickel in series such as Stesso, Zalindro, Gerdo, Zundo and Doretto. The Ero series uses opal white glass shades on a metal frame, from single fittings up to generous multi-arm pendants. The brand's more contemporary side shows in the slim aluminium Q and Slimi pendants in black and gold, and in the plain Neo and Piatto ceiling lights.

Open Design Highlights at Lunares

  • Pendant lights – from a single lamp over the dining table to multi-arm fittings for a living or dining room.
  • Ceiling lights and flush ceiling lights – fabric-shaded flush fittings, flat Piatto and Cedrone LED ceiling lights, and surface-mounted GU10 spots.
  • Wall lights – including IP44 models such as Omi, Fumi, Boletta and Luce, which work above a bathroom mirror.
  • Recessed lights – GU10 downlights and larger ES111 fittings for suspended ceilings.
  • Desk lamps and accessories, including a ceiling track.

Choosing an Open Design Highlights light

  • Light source. Some models take replaceable bulbs with E27, E14, G9 or GU10 caps, others have a built-in LED at 3000 K. The product page tells you whether the bulb is included.
  • One series, several rooms. Ero comes as a pendant, a ceiling light and a wall light, Stesso as a pendant and a flush ceiling light, and Gerdo as a pendant and a wall light, so it is easy to keep the living room, dining area and hallway consistent.
  • Bathrooms. Near the basin, choose wall lights marked IP44.
  • Recessed fittings. An ES111 fitting needs a wider cut-out and more ceiling void than a GU10 downlight; the cut-out diameter is on the product page.
