Ascent is a table lamp from Elstead Lighting's own collection, made in England. The base is a slim, four-sided obelisk in black-painted steel that tapers towards the top, with polished nickel on the collar under the shade and on the finial. It carries a white faux silk shade with a stiffened lining, so it holds the form of a slightly tapered drum.
Size and space on the furniture
The lamp is 79 cm tall, of which 45 cm is the base. The shade is 30 cm high, 30 cm across at the bottom and 26 cm at the top β that is the width the lamp takes up over a chest of drawers, console or bedside table, even though the base itself stands on a 9 Γ 9 cm square. It weighs 2.95 kg.
Power, bulb and light
The lamp runs from a plug and is switched with an inline switch on the cable, so there is no reaching under the shade. It is Class I, so it needs a socket with an earth contact. It takes one E27 bulb of up to 60 W; the bulb is not included. The manufacturer recommends a separately sold clear LED E27 A60 lamp rated 8 W, 800 lm and 3000 K β warm white light in roughly the amount of an old 60 W bulb.
The lamp has no dimmer of its own: the manufacturer lists it as compatible with dimmable smart bulbs, so brightness is set through a bulb controlled from an app or remote. The white shade spreads light sideways, while the open top and bottom send part of it to the ceiling and onto the surface below.
Which rooms it suits
The manufacturer presents the Ascent collection as modern lamps for the bedroom, living room and dining room. The same series includes a black version with a dark grey shade and polished nickel versions β this one has the black base and the white shade.
