Canto Maxi 2 is a wall light shaped like half a cylinder — the front is rounded, the back flat and flush against the wall. The body is aluminium, powder-coated in white RAL 9016, with a matt, slightly grainy surface. The fitting is open at the top and bottom and both openings are closed with clear glass, so light leaves in two directions at once.
How much wall it takes up
The fitting is 17.2 cm tall, 8.7 cm wide and projects 10 cm from the wall. A width under 9 cm is the figure to compare with the pier or door reveal you have in mind — it will sit on a narrow strip of masonry beside a doorway. It weighs 0.5 kg.
Because the beams travel up and down, you need clear wall above and below the fitting. That is where the two cones of light form, and they are the reason for this shape — tucked under an eaves overhang or right below a ceiling, the upward beam has nowhere to land.
What you still have to buy
Inside are two GU10 sockets, one per direction, and the maker allows bulbs of up to 28 W in each. Bulbs are not supplied, so you pick the colour and brightness yourself — for a façade or terrace most people choose 2700–3000 K, a warm, slightly yellow light.
It can be dimmed, but the fitting carries no electronics of its own for that: you need a bulb marked as dimmable and a dimmer on the circuit.
Where it may be fitted
IP44 means protection against splashing water from any direction, so the fitting belongs on a façade, terrace or balcony. The maker intends it for indoor use as well as outdoor. It is not, however, approved for coastal sites where salt mist reaches the housing.
The fitting is protection class I, so an earth conductor has to be present in the back box. In exchange it has a built-in parallel connection: a row of them can be fed from one looped supply rather than branching separately at each fitting. Designed by the Danish studio Bønnelycke MDD, from the Canto series.
