COBEN FLOOR CustomForm floor lamp black, gold shade interior 170 cm E27

COBEN FLOOR is a floor lamp 170 cm tall built from black metal tube: a slim column on a round base carrying an articulated arm that ends in a conical shade 25 cm across. The inside of the shade is gold.

Three joints, meaning light where you need it

This is not a lamp you set down and leave. The arm has a pivot at its root, an elbow halfway along and a rotation at the shade itself, so the light source can be reached out over an armchair, drawn back over a side table, or turned to the wall. At 170 cm tall, the shade in its extended position falls above the head of a seated person — exactly where reading light is needed, rather than behind the back where it throws a shadow onto the book. That is the most practical property of this construction and the reason to choose it over a fixed-arm lamp.

The gold interior works on the quality of the light

The inside of the cone is gold, and not merely as decoration. The black, opaque outer surface lets no light through sideways, so the whole output reflects off the inner surface and comes down. A gold coating gives that reflection a warm, honeyed cast — unlike a white one, which reflects neutrally. The effect shows best in the evening: the light is warmer than the bulb's own colour would suggest, and the inside of the cone glows like a metal bowl.

An E27 bulb, up to 60 W

The fitting has one E27 socket with a 60 W limit. That is a limit of the socket, not the power of the lamp — a figure from the filament era; today's equivalent is an LED of 7–10 W. Since the shade is metal and closed at the top, staying with LED is also worth it for heat: the cone warms from the bulb, and with an articulated arm the shade gets handled every time the position changes.

The COBEN family

This lamp is the floor-standing member of a larger family. CustomForm makes wall lights COBEN WALL (single and double) and pendants COBEN HANGMAN in several arrangements, all in the same idiom: black metal tube, joints, and a conical shade with a gold interior. That lets one room combine a floor lamp beside an armchair with a wall light by the bed and pendants over the table, keeping a coherence that choosing fittings separately cannot achieve.

Build and placement

The whole construction is metal, in matt black. The base is round and flat — it takes no space under an armchair, though with the arm extended it is worth positioning the lamp so the base's weight balances the reach. The cable leaves at the foot of the column. The shade is 25 cm across and 17 cm tall; that size gives a concentrated pool of light on a surface or a book rather than a diffuse glow across the room.
