Endon Franklin Antique Brass Task Table Lamp E14 46 cm 98747

Franklin 98747 is a table lamp with a curved steel arm and a bell-shaped metal shade held on a knuckle joint. The finish is antique brass — a muted, matt gold that does not throw back light as sharply as polished metal. The base is round and stepped, with the on/off toggle switch set into its rim.

Size and the space it needs

The lamp stands 46 cm high, 15 cm wide and 29 cm deep. The arm leans forward, so the shade sits over the work surface rather than over the base — on a desk that puts the light onto paper or a keyboard without moving the lamp itself.

At 1.4 kg it stays steady with the arm extended, and the compact base takes up little room on a sideboard or bedside table. The black braided fabric flex is 150 cm long, so the lamp can stand towards the back of a surface with the cable run behind the furniture to a socket.

How much light it gives

The fitting takes one E14 lamp rated up to 7 W. No bulb is supplied, so colour temperature and brightness are yours to choose. The manufacturer intends an LED filament golf-ball lamp here — it suits the open metal shade, where the bulb stays partly in view.

The shade is opaque and directs all of the light downwards onto the surface below. The knuckle beneath the shade changes the angle of the beam, which makes this a lamp for lighting one spot rather than a whole room. There is no built-in dimmer; the switch on the base is a plain on/off toggle.

Where it belongs

The bare metal shade, the exposed knuckle and the toggle switch on top of the base give it a workshop, industrial character, softened by the warm brass tone. The manufacturer places this model in living rooms and bedrooms, in offices and studies where light for working matters, and in hotel and restaurant interiors.

Build and series

Arm, shade and base are steel with an antique brass plated finish. The lamp is class II, so it needs no earth connection and works from an ordinary socket. The Franklin series also includes a floor lamp of the same construction, a wall light and pendants in two sizes, so several fittings can be combined in one room.
