Halleron outdoor wall lantern - 2 light sources - Burnished bronze Elstead

Halleron is an outdoor wall lantern by Kichler, distributed in Europe by Elstead Lighting. A spherical shade of seeded glass – clear glass with trapped air bubbles – is held by metal bands with a pierced gallery ring, and the whole lantern hangs from a scrolled arm rising out of an upright back plate. The aluminium body is finished in Burnished Bronze, a warm metallic tone with lighter highlights along the edges.

Size and wall mounting

The lantern is 48.9 cm tall and 25.4 cm wide – the same as the diameter of the glass sphere – and projects 31.8 cm from the wall. Compare that projection with the width of the path beside your door and the space under a porch roof, because from the front the fitting looks shallower than it is.

The back plate measures 12.7 × 30.5 cm and covers the junction box in the wall. The lantern weighs 3.24 kg. It is a Class I fitting, which means the supply at the mounting point needs a protective earth conductor.

Bulbs and dimming

Inside are two E14 lampholders, each rated for a bulb of up to 40 W. Bulbs are not included, so you need to buy two and choose the colour and brightness yourself. The manufacturer recommends E14 LED candle bulbs with clear glass for this lantern. The shade glass is clear and the bubbles only soften the light slightly, so the shape of the bulbs stays visible from outside.

The fitting is compatible with dimmable bulbs. If a dimmer is to be used on the circuit, both bulbs must be marked as dimmable.

Where it fits

An IP44 rating means protection against splashing water from any direction, so the lantern is designed for outdoor mounting on a building facade – on a house, and equally on the front of a hotel or restaurant.

The manufacturer names the Victorian era as the inspiration for the whole Halleron collection: the glass sphere, the decorative gallery ring, the turned finial below the shade and the scrolled arm are all details of a classic lantern. The same series also includes a larger three-bulb wall lantern, a chain lantern, a pedestal lantern and a flush ceiling light, so one design can run across the whole facade.
