The Glaciar 7731 is a small white acrylic cylinder 8.5 cm across and 10 cm tall, mounted on the surface of the ceiling. The whole body is translucent and glows along its full height rather than only downwards the way an ordinary spot does. The design is by Santiago Sevillano Studio.
Surface mounting and a 30 mm hole
The fitting sits on the ceiling, and only a 30 mm hole has to be drilled for the cable — there is no cut-out to make for the full 8.5 cm base. The manufacturer also allows it on stretch ceilings.
The Glaciar is a protection class I fitting, so the circuit it goes on has to carry an earth conductor. Three cores, including the yellow-green one, come out of the base plate.
How much light it gives and in what colour
The built-in LED module draws 9 W and delivers 700 lm at 4000 K — neutral white, light without a yellow cast and close to daylight. That output from a single fitting is roughly what an old 60 W bulb gave, so in a small bathroom or hallway the Glaciar carries the general lighting, while a larger room takes several.
Colour rendering is Ra 80. The manufacturer rates the module at 30,000 hours, and the light source cannot be replaced — once it is spent, the whole fitting is changed. The luminaire is not dimmable.
IP44, so a bathroom is possible
An IP44 rating means protection against splashing water from any direction. That lets the fitting go into a bathroom outside the zone of direct spray — above a basin or beside a shower enclosure, for instance — and not only into dry rooms.
Size and the other heights in the range
The cylinder itself weighs 160 g and drops 10 cm below the ceiling — a figure to compare with your room height and with how low the fitting may hang over a walkway. The Glaciar range also offers 17 cm and 24 cm versions at the same 8.5 cm diameter, so several fittings can be set at different levels.
