Merrill small wall lantern - 1 light source - Black Elstead

Merrill is a small wall lantern by Feiss (Generation Lighting), distributed by Elstead Lighting. A cylindrical shade of clear seeded glass – glass with trapped air bubbles – sits in a black aluminium housing with a round cap, and a curved decorative bracket runs beneath the lantern to join it to the wall plate.

Size and wall mounting

The lantern is 38.8 cm high and 19.4 cm wide, and it projects 24.1 cm from the wall. The back plate measures 22.9 × 11.5 cm and is 2.3 cm deep – the figure to compare with the free space on your wall, for example between a door frame and a downpipe. The fitting weighs 2.79 kg.

The back plate is flat and needs a flat wall. For mounting on the corner of a building the manufacturer offers a separately sold corner bracket, C-BKT2-BLACK, and a spare glass shade is available under code GS1340 in case of breakage.

Light source

Inside is a single E27 lampholder for a bulb of up to 60 W. No bulb is included, so you choose its colour temperature and brightness yourself. The glass is clear, which leaves the bulb visible through the shade – with this lantern the look of the bulb matters as much as the amount of light it gives.

The fitting works with dimmable bulbs: dimming it needs a dimmer switch and a bulb marked as dimmable.

Outdoor use

The IP44 rating means protection against splashing water from any direction, and the manufacturer specifies the fitting for exterior use, on the facade of a building. The lantern is protection class I, so it is connected with a protective earth conductor – the wiring at the wall must be earthed.
