Huntersfield is a medium-sized wall lantern by Hinkley, supplied by Elstead Lighting. The four-sided lantern with a pyramid roof tapers towards the bottom and hangs from a curved arm fixed to a rectangular wall plate. The panes are clear seeded glass with small air bubbles, and the aluminium body has a black finish.
Size and installation
The fitting is 47.9 cm tall and 22.9 cm wide, and it projects 27.4 cm from the wall. Compare the height with the space between the door frame and the eaves or a downpipe, and the projection with the width of the path by the entrance. The lantern weighs 2.92 kg.
It mounts on a flat wall. Where there is only a corner of the building by the door, the manufacturer offers a separately sold corner bracket, C-BKT2-BLACK (or the brown C-BKT2-BROWN). The fitting is protection class I, so it must be connected to the earth conductor.
Bulbs and light
Inside are two E14 lamp holders for candle bulbs of up to 40 W each, visible through the panes. The bulbs are not included – you need to buy two. The glass is colourless, so the bulbs stay visible while the bubbles break their glow into small reflections; a warm 2700 K colour suits the form of a traditional lantern best.
The lantern works with dimmable bulbs – you need a dimmer and bulbs labelled as dimmable.
Outdoors and in the series
The IP44 rating means protection against splashing water from any direction, and the manufacturer intends the lantern for outdoor installation – on the facade by the front door, and also at hotels or restaurants. The Huntersfield series also includes wall lanterns in other sizes and chain lanterns in the same finish.
