Huntersfield is a medium pedestal lantern by Hinkley, distributed in Europe by Elstead Lighting. It has the classic form of a square lantern with a hipped roof topped by a finial, four panes of clear seeded glass and a round, stepped base. The manufacturer states it is made of aluminium and brass with a black finish.
Size and installation
The lantern is 44.4 cm high and 22.9 cm wide. It fixes by its base to the flat top of a gate pier, wall or pedestal, so compare the width of the base and lantern with the top of the pier it will stand on. It weighs 3.04 kg.
The manufacturer specifies it for outdoor installation. The IP44 rating means protection against splashing water from any direction. It is Class I, so it must be connected to an earth conductor, and the supply cable has to be brought up to its base.
Bulbs and light
Inside are two candle-style E14 lampholders, each for a bulb of up to 40 W. Bulbs are not included. The glass is clear, so the bulbs are visible from outside and their shape is part of the look — candle bulbs suit the candle-style holders. The lantern can be dimmed with bulbs marked as dimmable.
Where to place it
Huntersfield has a traditional lantern form that the manufacturer describes as elegant yet simple. It suits piers at a gate or driveway, garden and terrace walls, and the entrances of hotels and restaurants, where several lanterns mark the way to the building.
