Norlys Alta 1443BL bollard light E27, 85 cm, pine wood and black steel RAL 9005

Alta 1443BL is an 85 cm Norlys bollard light whose shaft is a round post of impregnated Scandinavian pine, 15 cm in diameter. The head with five horizontal louvres, the collar below it and the base are hot-dip galvanised steel, powder-coated black (RAL 9005). The wood keeps a light, natural tone; in the same family Norlys also offers a version with painted wood, numbered 1440.

Size and installation

At 85 cm the head sits below an adult's eye line, so the light falls mainly on the ground around the post. The fitting weighs 5.9 kg and is bolted down through three ø9 mm holes spaced 120° apart on a 65 mm circle.

For setting the post into soil or onto a foundation, Norlys sells a concrete anchor (205), a ground anchor (206), a concrete-foundation adapter (206S) and mounting adapters 3080GA and 3086GA separately. The terminals take conductors up to 3×2.5 mm², and a further fitting can be looped through with up to 3×1.5 mm², so several bollards along a path can run from one supply line. The cable gland accepts round cable up to 12.5 mm in diameter.

Light source and distribution

The fitting has an E27 socket for an LED bulb of up to 9 W in A55–A60 shape. No bulb is included, and the user replaces it themselves. An LED bulb of around 800 lm gives as much light as an old 60 W bulb, and you choose the colour temperature along with the bulb.

The opal PMMA diffuser spreads the light evenly all round, while the louvres shield it from above. The manufacturer states a ULOR of 11% and a BUG rating of B0-U1-G0, meaning only a small share of the light goes skyward and the fitting causes little glare for people walking past.

Durability and where it fits

IP65 means the fitting is dust-tight and protected against water jets, so the bollard can stand outdoors without cover. The IK08 impact rating matters beside a driveway and on ground many people use. The light is protection class II, so no earth conductor needs to be connected.

The bollard suits a terrace, a garden, a driveway edge or a street frontage. Light wood against black steel and a plain, round form without ornament place it in the Scandinavian style.
