Norlys Alta 1440BL black bollard light, painted wood, E27, 85 cm

The Norlys Alta 1440BL is an 85 cm bollard light with a round column of painted Scandinavian pine. The wood has a dark, reddish-brown tone, while the five-ring head and the base are black (RAL 9005). A milky PMMA diffuser sits beneath the rings.

Size and installation

The column is 15 cm in diameter and 85 cm tall – the usual height for a path or driveway, where light should fall on the ground rather than into people's eyes. The fitting weighs 5.9 kg. It is fixed with three bolts through ø9 mm holes set 120° apart on a ø65 mm circle.

No ground fixing is included. Norlys offers it separately: concrete anchor 205, ground anchor 206, concrete foundation adapter 206S and mounting adapters 3080GA and 3086GA.

Light source and distribution

The fitting has an E27 socket and takes an LED bulb of up to 9 W in an A55–A60 shape; a wider decorative globe will not fit under the diffuser. No bulb is supplied, so you choose the colour temperature and brightness yourself, and changing it needs no electrician. For reference, an LED bulb of about 800 lm matches an old 60 W incandescent.

Light spreads all round and is shielded from above: Norlys gives a ULOR of 11% and a BUG rating of B0-U1-G0, so about 11% of the light leaves above the fitting.

Construction and wiring

The steel parts are hot-dip galvanised and powder-coated, and a silicone gasket seals the joints. IP65 means the bollard is dust-tight and protected against water jets, so it can stand outdoors without any cover; impact resistance is IK08. Protection class II means double insulation, so no earth conductor is needed.

The terminals accept conductors up to 3 × 2.5 mm² and let the supply loop through to the next fitting (up to 3 × 1.5 mm²), and the gland takes round cable up to 12.5 mm in diameter. Several bollards along a path can therefore run from one supply line. The diffuser and gasket are listed as spare parts, so a damaged diffuser does not mean a new fitting.

Where it fits

Norlys designs the Alta for private grounds and public areas: along garden paths, beside a driveway, at a terrace or by the street. Dark painted wood paired with black metal places it in the Scandinavian style. The same fitting with light, impregnated wood is the Alta 1443.
