The Asker Small Down MD1531CS is an outdoor wall light shaped as a compact block that sends its light downwards only. The body is powder-coated cast aluminium in a corten steel colour, closed underneath by a clear, textured diffuser of UV-stabilised polycarbonate. A microwave motion sensor with a dusk switch is built into the housing.
Size and wall mounting
The fitting is 22.5 cm wide and 11.5 cm high and projects 8.5 cm from the wall — compare that with the space beside the door where it will hang. It is screwed on through two ø4.5 mm holes spaced 180 × 60 mm, following the instructions supplied with the fitting.
The terminals take conductors up to 3 × 2.5 mm², and a round-sheathed cable of 7–10.5 mm diameter enters through an EPDM gland. Loop-through wiring up to 3 × 1.5 mm² lets several lights on one facade share a single line. It is a Class I fitting, so it must be connected to the protective earth conductor.
Light output and motion sensor
The integrated LED module runs directly on 230 V mains and gives 2700 K, a warm, slightly yellowish light close to a traditional bulb. The module itself is rated at 773 lm, while the fitting emits 331 lm of diffused light in a downward hemisphere — orientation lighting for an entrance and the strip of wall below the lamp, not lighting for a whole driveway. A ULOR of 0 % means no light escapes upwards, into the sky or the windows above.
The microwave sensor switches the light on when it detects movement, and the dusk switch lets you limit operation to the hours after dark. From the factory the detection area is set to full, the hold time to 5 s and the dusk threshold is off, so the lamp also reacts in daylight and goes out a few seconds after movement stops; the manufacturer intends them to be adjusted after installation.
Construction and lifetime
IP65 means a dust-tight housing protected against water jets, so the light can hang on an exposed facade without a canopy. Impact resistance IK08 protects it against accidental knocks. The manufacturer intends the fitting for lighting walls and facades.
The LED module may only be replaced by a professional service. The L70 lifetime exceeds 55,000 hours — at three hours a day that is about 50 years before the output falls to 70 % of its initial value.
