London 493BS is a Norlys outdoor wall light in the form of a classic four-sided lantern hanging beneath a curved arm. The lantern has clear panes, a pyramid roof topped with a finial and an ornate wall bracket. The cast aluminium body is black, rubbed with a silver patina (code BS).
Size and mounting
The light is 56 cm high and 30.5 cm wide, and the arm sets it 46 cm out from the wall; the wall plate is 23 cm high. This is a large wall lantern – beside a front door, compare its height with the door frame and its projection with the space for a door leaf or shutter opening next to it. It weighs 3.57 kg and is fixed with four screws through ø5 mm holes spaced 25 × 140 mm apart.
The terminals take conductors up to 2 × 2.5 mm², and the gland seals a round cable 7–10.5 mm in diameter. For a building corner, the manufacturer offers corner bracket 152, sold separately.
Light source
The lantern holds one E27 socket for an LED lamp of up to 11 W. No light source is included, and the user replaces it themselves. Among the recommended light sources the manufacturer lists E27 LED lamps and replacements matching the brightness of old 75–100 W bulbs. The light is uncovered: it leaves through the clear panes in every direction, lighting the wall around the fitting and the area in front of it.
Construction and durability
The body is powder-coated cast aluminium, the panes are UV-stabilised polycarbonate, and an EPDM gland seals the cable entry. IP54 means protection against dust and splashing water from any direction, so the light can hang on an exposed facade. Impact resistance IK07 protects the panes against an accidental knock. It is protection class II and needs no earth conductor, and the diffuser is available as a spare part.
A classic lantern of this kind suits a house facade, an entrance or the garden side, especially on traditionally styled architecture.
