NORLYS London Big 4128WH is a complete garden lantern in classic English style: a telescopic post topped by a crossarm carrying two four-sided lanterns. The body is cast aluminium, powder-coated white (RAL 9003). The set comprises the luminaire art. 4120, the terminal art. 3040 and the post art. 3010.

How tall it is and where it can stand

The post is telescopic, so the overall height can be set anywhere from 191 to 279 cm. The low end is roughly an adult with an arm raised; the high end lifts the lanterns clear of low shrubs and flower beds. The crossarm with its two lanterns spans 91 cm, which is the clearance to leave from branches or a house wall.

The manufacturer intends this model for gardens and private grounds, and it equally suits a terrace, a park or the courtyard of a hotel or restaurant. IP54 means protection against dust and against water splashed from any direction, so the lantern can stand outdoors without a canopy, and the IK07 impact rating guards it against accidental knocks.

How much light it gives

Each of the two lanterns houses an integrated Philips Fortimo LED module of 9.5 W. The modules come with the lantern, so there are no bulbs to buy. 3000 K is warm white, and the whole luminaire delivers 1514 lm from 19 W in total – enough to light a path or driveway rather than just mark a spot in the garden. CRI 80 keeps plants and stone looking natural.

The LED module is not meant to be swapped by the user, but the manufacturer provides for its replacement by a professional service, so years down the line the lantern itself does not have to be replaced.

Mounting and wiring

The post is anchored with three bolts through ø10.5 mm holes spaced at 120° on a ø240 mm circle. Anchoring parts and the foundation are ordered separately. The post has an inspection door, and the terminals take conductors up to 4 x 2.5 mm² and allow the supply to be looped on to the next fitting, so several lanterns along a path can run from one circuit. The supply cable may be 7 to 12.5 mm in diameter. The lantern is protection class II, so it needs no earth conductor, and it must be connected by a licensed electrician.
