Sandvik Down 1740BL is a box-shaped outdoor wall light 13.5 cm tall, made of cast aluminium with a black powder coat (RAL 9005). Light leaves only through the underside, via a window of clear safety glass. The manufacturer describes the design as classic — a plain body without ornament and with smooth faces.
How it lights
The fitting directs light downwards in a 25° beam, and ULOR 0% means that none of the output goes upwards. Below the light you get a narrow, sharply cut-off pool of light, while the wall above stays dark. This is a layout for marking an entrance, a pillar or a section of façade, not for lighting a whole yard evenly. The BUG rating B0-U0-G0 is the lowest value in all three categories: backlight, uplight and glare.
Light source
The fitting has a GU10 socket for a PAR16 lamp of up to 4 W. No lamp is included, so brightness and colour are decided by the lamp you choose — 2700–3000 K gives warm, slightly yellowish light. The lamp is replaced by the user, without touching the wiring.
Installation and build
The housing is 8 cm wide and projects 11 cm from the wall. It is fixed through two ø4.5 mm holes spaced 37 × 80 mm apart. The terminals take conductors up to 3 × 2.5 mm², or up to 3 × 1.5 mm² when several lights are looped together. The EPDM cable gland seals a round cable 7–10.5 mm in diameter — worth comparing with the cable coming out of your wall. The fitting is protection class I, so it must be connected to the protective earth. For mounting on the corner of a building the manufacturer sells a separate corner bracket, 131XX0009.
IP65 means a dust-tight housing protected against water jets, so the light can hang on a façade without a canopy. Rating IK08 stands for resistance to an impact of 5 J, and a silicone gasket keeps the joint between glass and housing sealed. The light weighs 1.05 kg.
