Parish Mini PRM9-BLACK chain lantern black E27 Elstead

Parish Mini PRM9-BLACK is an outdoor chain lantern in a classic shape: a body tapering downwards, clear glass panels in a metal frame, a domed top and a turned finial underneath. The body is cast in aluminium and powder-coated black with a distinctly grainy texture; the fitting is made in England.

How big the lantern is and how low it hangs

The lantern body is 34.5 cm high and 18 cm wide — the size of a lantern over an entrance, not a main light for a large terrace. It weighs 1.4 kg, so it loads the ceiling hook barely more than an ordinary pendant.

The drop adjusts between 49.5 and 96.5 cm by shortening the 49 cm chain supplied. Compare the upper figure with the height of your porch roof: under a low canopy the finial can end up at head height, which is why the chain is usually taken in by a few links. A round ceiling plate with a hook is screwed to the ceiling and the chain hangs from it.

What light it gives and what has to be bought separately

The lantern takes one E27 lamp of up to 60 W. No bulb is included — it is bought separately, and the manufacturer recommends a clear E27 LED lamp of 8 W, 800 lm and 3000 K for this fitting: the brightness of a former 60 W bulb, in warm white.

There is no driver and no integrated LED, so dimming depends on the lamp and the dimmer in the circuit — the manufacturer confirms the fitting works with dimmable lamps. The glass is clear, so the lamp itself stays visible: worth remembering when choosing between a decorative filament and a frosted bulb.

Where it may hang and how it is protected

IP44 protects against splashing water from any direction but not against flooding — the lantern is intended for a covered spot: a porch, a canopy, a shelter or a gazebo. Class I means the installation needs an earth conductor.

The cast, powder-coated aluminium carries a ten-year manufacturer guarantee, and the glass can be ordered separately as spare part GS36. On a balcony, a terrace or in a gazebo the black traditional outline works best where the facade or the woodwork is dark as well.
