Provence Stick is a slender table lamp with a thin straight stem, a conical metal shade and a round, stepped base. It is made of steel and finished in aged brass, a warm, muted metal tone without a mirror shine. Elstead Lighting describes it as a buffet lamp that gives a soft, downward light.
How much space it takes
The lamp is 59 cm tall, and its widest part, the shade, is about 21 cm across. The base measures 15 cm in diameter and the stem only 1.6 cm, so the lamp takes up little room on a surface. Compare these figures with the free space on your sideboard, chest of drawers or desk; the manufacturer intends it for compact spaces.
It runs from a mains cable with a plug and weighs 2.43 kg. You can place it wherever there is a socket and move it to another piece of furniture at any time without an electrician.
What light it gives
The fitting has a single E14 lampholder for a bulb of up to 7 W. A 4 W LED E14 bulb is included, so the lamp works straight out of the box. The opaque steel shade directs the light downwards onto the surface below rather than spreading it around the room. This is ambient light for one part of a piece of furniture, not for the whole room.
The lamp can be dimmed if you fit a dimmable smart bulb; brightness is then controlled through the bulb itself. The fitting is protection class I, so the plug must go into an earthed socket. The lamp is for indoor use only.
Which interiors it suits
The conical shade, thin stem and stepped base make up a classic table lamp shape, and the series takes its name from Provence. The lamp suits a sideboard or chest of drawers in a dining room and a desk in a home office, anywhere a small area of a surface needs light. The Provence series also includes wall lights, pendants and floor lamps in the same finish.
