Orb Poseidon is an s.luce floor lamp with a mouth-blown, opal-white glass globe 50 cm in diameter. The globe rests on a slender black metal frame whose three splayed arms recall the prongs of a trident — hence the model name. The lamp stands 180 cm tall.
Dimensions and where it fits
With the 50 cm globe the lamp takes up a floor area of about 50 × 50 cm, and its top sits 180 cm above the floor, roughly at the eye level of a standing adult. Compare that with the spot beside an armchair, a sofa or in the corner of the room where it will stand.
The same model is also offered with 30 cm and 40 cm globes, where the lamp is correspondingly lower, and in smoked, amber and clear glass as well as copper, gold and smoke gradient finishes.
What light it gives and how it is adjusted
Inside the globe is one E27 lampholder for a bulb of up to 40 W. The bulb is not included. The opening of the globe admits lamps up to 12.5 cm across, so larger decorative bulbs fit as well. The opal glass hides the bulb and spreads the light over the whole surface of the globe, so the lamp glows as an even, bright sphere with no harsh point.
A cord dimmer on the cable adjusts the brightness without reaching for a wall switch. It works with a bulb labelled dimmable; with an ordinary LED lamp the light can only be switched on and off. The lamp is protection class I, so it is plugged into a socket with an earth contact.
Which interiors it suits
The manufacturer describes its style as modern and intends it for living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms and studies. The large globe and thin frame make the lamp mark out a specific spot in a room, such as a reading corner next to an armchair, and at lower brightness it provides a backdrop for relaxing in the evening.
