Sponge 34 is a portable floor lamp with an opal dome shade 34 cm across, set on a black metal stem with a round base. It stands 126 cm tall and runs off a built-in battery, so it does not need a socket nearby. The shade is plastic; the stem and base are metal.
How long it runs on one charge
The manufacturer gives three runtimes, one per brightness step: 5 hours at 450 lm, 10 hours at 300 lm and 18 hours at 150 lm. At full output the battery lasts roughly one evening; on the lowest step it covers three such evenings in a row.
Charging from empty to full takes 8 hours over the supplied 150 cm Micro-USB cable at 5 V. That is longer than the longest run at full brightness, so the lamp is easier to charge during the day than between two evenings.
How much light it gives, and of what kind
The built-in LED module draws 6.8 W and delivers 450 lm at 2700 K — warm, slightly yellow light close to a traditional incandescent bulb. 450 lm is accent brightness, about half of an old 60 W bulb, so Sponge 34 lights the spot it stands in rather than a whole room.
Brightness switches through three steps using the button on the lamp itself, in the Moodmaker™ system, with no dimmer and no remote. A colour rendering index of Ra 80 is the usual figure for supplementary light. The light source cannot be replaced; the manufacturer rates it for 30,000 hours.
Where it can stand
The shade is 34 cm across, the base 28.5 cm, and the whole lamp weighs 4.1 kg — a weight you can carry one-handed. At 126 cm the shade sits roughly at the eye level of someone seated, so the light falls from above rather than straight into the face.
An IP65 rating means it withstands rain and water jets, so the lamp can stay on a terrace, on a balcony or in the garden. The manufacturer does state it is not intended for seaside locations. With no mains cable in the way, the same lamp moves indoors for the winter and works as an ordinary floor lamp in a living room or bedroom.
