Varberg 7152BL Black LED Floodlight by NORLYS

The Varberg 7152BL is an outdoor floodlight from Norlys, built around a rectangular black housing of extruded, powder-coated aluminium. It sits in a U-shaped yoke that lets you aim the beam up or down, and its face is closed by a sealed clear polycarbonate lens. The LED module is built in, so the light source arrives with the fitting.

How much light it gives and where it goes

The luminaire puts out 741 lm for 7.7 W - roughly what an old 60 W bulb produced, but thrown in one direction instead of all of them. At 3000 K the light is a warm white, so pale render and timber keep their own colour under it. A colour rendering index of Ra 80 is enough for a facade or planting.

The distribution comes from a Ledil T4-B lens with an IESNA type IV pattern: the light goes forward and sideways rather than evenly around the fitting. Mounted close to a wall, the floodlight therefore covers the wall instead of shining into the windows. The B1-U1-G1 rating says little of it escapes upwards.

Where and how it is mounted

The body fits inside a 13 x 16 x 9 cm envelope and weighs 0.9 kg, so on the surface it takes up about the area of a hand. The yoke is screwed down through two holes 7 mm across, 90 mm apart - that spacing is the only measurement to mark out before drilling.

An H05RN-F 3G1 cable comes fitted from the factory and is run into a suitably chosen installation box. This is class I equipment, so the circuit has to carry a protective earth. IP65 sealing and IK08 impact resistance let the floodlight stay out in the rain.

Light source and dimming

The LED module and the driver are permanently built in and only the manufacturer's service replaces them - you never buy bulbs for this fitting, but you do not have to replace the whole of it years later either. Norlys quotes 109 000 h for the LED module and 50 000 h for the driver; the second figure is the one that usually runs out first.

The floodlight can be phase-dimmed, but on the trailing edge only. An older R/RL dimmer will not drive it - the dimmer has to be marked RC or TE.
