BELL is a large pendant built from slim black rods that cross one another, with lit acrylic sections running along their undersides. The whole structure hangs on three steel cables fixed to a single narrow rectangular ceiling plate, and the supply lead runs separately alongside them.

How much space it needs below the ceiling

The manufacturer's dimensioned drawing gives a span of 180.5 cm and a depth of 75 cm. That is a rectangle comparable to the top of a large dining table, and it is the figure to set against the surface you want the lamp to hang over — above a narrower table the rods will reach past its edges.

From the ceiling plate to the lowest point of the fitting is 150 cm. Compare that with the height of your own room: over a table the bottom edge usually sits 70–80 cm above the top, and over open floor you need to leave room to walk underneath. The ceiling plate is narrow and rectangular, and the weight is carried by three cables spaced along its length.

The light BELL gives

The light source is built in: an LED module of 92 W producing 6868 lm at 3000 K. That is warm white, a slightly yellow light close to a traditional bulb rather than a cool office tone. 6868 lm is roughly what eight 60 W bulbs give, so the fitting is meant as the main light in a room rather than an addition to other fittings.

The diodes cannot be replaced, so there is no bulb to buy and no colour of light to choose — the manufacturer fixed it at the factory. The fitting runs on 230 V and is intended for indoor use.

Materials and form

The rods are metal finished in black, and the lit sections are acrylic, which spreads the light of the diodes along the whole arm instead of showing individual points. The contrast between black metal and milky acrylic is as visible with the lamp switched off as with it lit.

The form is modern: straight lines only, with no ornament, crystal or shades. The 180.5 cm span and a light output at main-lighting level put this fitting over a dining table or in the middle of a living room, above a surface whose size matches its own.
