Bridgepoint is an outdoor wall lantern with a round shade of clear seeded glass held in a metal cage. The shade hangs from a ring on a curved arm, with a conical vented cap above it. The body is aluminium in a natural brass finish. The Kichler collection draws on classic ship and railway lanterns, and it is distributed by Elstead Lighting.
Size and mounting on a facade
The lantern is 40.5 cm tall and 22.8 cm wide, and projects 25.8 cm from the wall. The back plate measures 15.2 × 13.3 cm – that, not the shade, is what has to fit on a flat patch of wall, for example between a door frame and a downpipe. Where there is no flat wall beside the entrance, the maker offers separately sold corner brackets C-BKT2-BROWN and C-BKT2-BLACK. The fitting weighs 1.3 kg and is Class I, so it must be connected to an earth conductor.
Outdoor protection
The maker specifies the lantern for exterior use. The IP44 rating means protection against splashing water from any direction – rain falling on the facade – but not against a jet of water from a hose.
Bulb and light
The lantern takes one E27 bulb of up to 60 W. The bulb is not included. The seeded glass softens the light slightly while leaving the bulb in view, so a clear filament bulb suits it well. The lantern is compatible with dimming: it needs a dimmable bulb and a dimmer switch in the installation.
Where it suits
The classic lantern shape suits a house facade beside the front door, as well as the entrances of hotels and restaurants. The Bridge Point series also comes in a Weathered Zinc finish.
