Carlson is an exterior wall light in lantern form: a box-shaped aluminium body in a Rubbed Bronze finish, hung beneath a curved bracket that bolts to the wall. Seeded glass — clear, with air bubbles suspended in it — fills the sides and the front. The design comes from Kichler and is distributed in Europe by Elstead Lighting. The bracket above the body is bowed into an arch and finishes in an S-scroll; it is what carries the lantern's weight into the wall.
How much wall it needs
The fitting is 37.2 cm high and 20.8 cm wide, and it projects 14.3 cm from the wall. The back plate measures 19.7 x 22.9 cm — that is how much flat, clear surface the mounting position has to offer, beside a door or between two windows, for instance.
Where no such flat face exists because the lantern is going on a building corner, the manufacturer offers separate corner brackets under the codes C-BKT2-BROWN and C-BKT2-BLACK. They are not in the box and are bought on their own.
Lamps and changing them
Inside are two E14 sockets, each taking a lamp of up to 40 W; lamps are not included. The fitting works with dimmable lamps, so dimming depends on which lamp and which dimmer are paired with it. The glass is clear, so both lamps show through the lantern's sides; their shape is part of how the fitting looks.
The front is a hinged door held by a latch. Lamps are changed through it, without dismantling the body and without taking the fitting off the wall.
Working outdoors
An IP44 rating means protection against water splashed from any direction — a fitting meant for a façade with no roof over it. The body is aluminium, which does not rust, and the whole thing weighs 2.3 kg, the load the wall fixing has to carry. It runs on mains supply: 220–240 V, 50 Hz.
