Deco Lane is an outdoor half wall lantern from Elstead Lighting's own range, made in England. It has a flat back that sits against the wall, three clear polycarbonate panels, a four-sided roof topped with a finial and a cast aluminium body in cream. The backplate is mirrored on the inside, so it throws light forward instead of losing it on the wall.
Size and fitting by the door
The lantern is 32.5 cm high and 19.3 cm wide and projects only 11 cm from the wall, so it does not get in the way in a narrow passage by the door. What decides the space, though, is the backplate: at 34 cm high and 19 cm wide it is taller than the lantern itself — compare it with the strip of wall between the door frame and a downpipe or corner. The fitting weighs 1 kg, or 1.5 kg boxed.
The manufacturer rates Deco Lane for exterior use at IP44, meaning protection against splashing water from any direction. It is a Class II, double-insulated fitting, so no earth conductor is needed. Supply voltage is 220–240 V.
Bulb
Inside is a single E27 socket for a bulb of up to 60 W, and no bulb is included. Because the panels are clear, the bulb stays visible and its shape becomes part of the lantern's look. With a dimmer in the circuit, the fitting works with dimmable bulbs.
Materials and colour
The body is solid cast aluminium, which does not rust, and the polycarbonate panels do not shatter on impact the way glass does. The cream finish stands out clearly against dark brick or charcoal render. The traditional lantern shape suits the front of a classic house, and the Deco Lane series also comes in black, bronze, green and red.
