NUMINOS GIMBLE S (1005883) is a white SLV recessed ceiling light with a movable head set in a 10 cm diameter ring. The head rotates through 355° and tilts by 60°, so the light can be aimed at a picture, a wall or a particular part of the room rather than only straight down.

What you need to buy with it

The fitting is protection class III and runs on a 250 mA constant current; no driver is included, and without one it cannot be switched on. SLV lists matching 250 mA drivers: 1004058 (6.5–10 W), phase-dimming 1004055, DALI 1004067 and bridge driver 1006458 with a slot for a radio module. The driver decides how the light dims, because the fitting itself has no DALI interface of its own.

Installation and size

The ceiling cut-out is round, 9 cm across, and 7 cm of clear space is needed above the ceiling. The bezel sits just 0.4 cm below the ceiling, and the retaining springs take a panel 7–25 mm thick, which covers a typical plasterboard suspended ceiling. The fitting's own lead is 10 cm, and the driver can sit anywhere from 20 to 200 cm away. SLV reserves installation for an electrician.

What light it gives

The integrated LED module draws 8.6 W and gives 720 lm at 2700 K, a warm, slightly yellow white. The 55° beam throws a clear pool of light below the fitting or on the wall it is aimed at. CRI 90 means faithful colour rendering, which matters for pictures, fabrics and over a kitchen worktop. UGR 22 is glare that is acceptable at home but above what office workstations require.

SLV gives a service life of 50,000 h (L80B50), and the light source may only be replaced by a professional. Diffusers (honeycomb, frosted, prismatic, elliptical) and 160/100 mm reduction rings are available from SLV separately.

Which interiors it suits

A flat white bezel with the head sunk into it suits modern and minimalist interiors. The adjustable fitting works in a living room for pictures and shelving, in a kitchen over the worktop and in a hallway.
