Hello is a table lamp from Nordlux's Design For The People line, designed by the Danish designer Charlotte Høncke. A large, shallow shade 30 cm across – grey outside, white inside – sits on a bell-shaped metal base, and a small globe of opal white glass covers the bulb.

A shade that turns all the way round

The shade rotates through a full 360°. Facing the room it gives direct light, diffused by the opal globe; turned to face the wall it bounces the light off it and lights the room indirectly and more softly. It is the same lamp in two modes – with no bulb change and no extra parts.

Size and placement

The lamp is 42 cm tall and 24.3 cm wide, and the shade is 30 cm in diameter – dimensions to compare with the chest of drawers, bedside table or shelf it is meant to stand on. It weighs 3 kg. The grey is NCS S3000-N, and the cable is the same grey.

Bulb, power and use

The lamp has an E14 socket and takes a bulb of up to 25 W; no bulb is included. An E14 LED bulb stays well inside that limit. According to the instructions the bulb is screwed in first and the glass globe fitted over it afterwards. The lamp cannot be dimmed, so it will not work with a dimmer.

The switch is on the cable. The textile-covered cable is 250 cm long and not replaceable, and the plug goes into an ordinary socket – it is class II with double insulation. The lamp is intended for indoor use.

Soft, organic shapes and a matt grey finish place it in the Scandinavian style. It suits a living room, a bedside in the bedroom, and hotels and restaurants.
