Andromeda AP2 is an outdoor wall light shaped as a long, slightly curved bar of die-cast aluminium with a grey lacquer finish. Frosted Pyrex glass closes it at the top and bottom, so light leaves upwards and downwards along the wall at the same time.
Size and mounting
The fitting is 45 cm long and 8 cm high, and it projects 9.5 cm from the wall. Compare the 45 cm with the stretch of wall between windows or beside a door; at only 9.5 cm deep it barely intrudes over a walkway. It weighs 1.63 kg.
It is protection class I, so it is connected with an earth conductor. Supply is 220–240 V.
Bulbs and light
Inside are two E27 lampholders, each taking a bulb of up to 60 W. No bulbs are included — Ideal Lux recommends its own SFERA 6 W LED bulb at 4000 K, which is neutral white light. The manufacturer lists the fitting as non-dimmable.
Because it emits both up and down, it casts two beams on the wall, above and below the fitting — so it lights the façade itself, not only the area beneath it.
Outdoors
IP55 means protection against dust and against water jets from any direction, so the light can hang on a building wall with no canopy above it. The manufacturer allows operation from −15 to +45 °C. The plain, unornamented body suits modern architecture. The Andromeda series also includes the smaller AP1 wall light (22 cm long) and the AP2 in anthracite, white, coffee and black.
