A globe in white glass
The shade is glass, in white – not acrylic and not surface-frosted clear glass. The difference shows once it is switched on: white glass glows evenly across its whole surface, with no brighter patch where the lamp sits and no visible lampholder inside. On a spherical shade that matters especially, because a globe is seen from every side at once – any unevenness in the glow is obvious.
Thirty centimetres across is a size that reads as a single, distinct object. A globe this size over a table does not vanish into the background, but neither does it dominate the room the way a 50 cm shade would.
Antique bronze as the counterpoint
Suspension, canopy and shade fitting are finished in antique bronze – a warm, subdued metal closer to old brass than to gold. The pairing with the cool white of the glass is the real effect here: the metal stays dark and matt, the globe bright, so the fitting reads as two separate elements rather than one uniform mass. This finish sits well with timber and brick, less well with chrome and brushed steel.
An E27 socket rated to 40 W
The lampholder is E27 with a 40 W limit, and no lamp is supplied. Because the shade is closed and white, the lamp is not visible – its appearance therefore does not matter and an ordinary frosted LED will do. What does matter is the colour: 2700–3000 K underlines the warmth of the antique bronze, while a cooler 4000 K turns this fitting into a utility light. The fitting is dimmable – but only with a lamp marked as dimmable, since the luminaire itself contains no control gear.
Installation and use
The construction is steel and glass, mounted on its canopy, supply 220–240 V. IP20 places the fitting in dry interiors – the manufacturer lists a bathroom among its uses, which should be read as a position outside the protection zones, well away from bath and shower. With a 30 cm glass shade it is worth checking the load capacity of the mounting point before hanging. The manufacturer gives 2 years of warranty.
