The large Picture Light is a two-light wall fitting from Elstead Lighting's own range, designed to light a painting or a mirror. The steel fitting has a brushed brass finish. A swan-neck arm curves out of a square wall plate with a pressed decorative pattern and carries a horizontal, cylindrical shade.
Size and positioning over a picture
The shade is 36 cm long — a figure to compare with the width of the frame of the picture or mirror it will hang above. The fitting is 13.5 cm high overall, and the arm holds the shade 20 cm away from the wall, so the light reaches the canvas from a distance rather than skimming the wall. Where the arm meets the shade there is a joint with a wing screw, used to set the tilt of the shade. The fitting weighs 0.97 kg.
It is a Class I fitting, which means it must be connected to an earth conductor. The manufacturer specifies it for indoor use.
Bulbs and light
The shade holds two E14 sockets, each rated for a bulb of up to 40 W. Bulbs are not included — the manufacturer suggests a candle-shaped LED bulb, sold separately. The fitting can be dimmed with dimmable bulbs and a dimmer that works with them, which lets you match the brightness on a painting to the time of day. Colour comes from the bulbs you choose: 2700 K is warm, slightly yellow light, 3000 K is warm white.
Style and finishes
The pressed wall plate, curved arm and plain shade follow the classic picture-light pattern, which the manufacturer describes as simple but elegant. The same large two-light version also comes in black, black and gold, dark bronze, polished brass and polished chrome, so the finish can be matched to the frame.
