Lutec CYRA is an outdoor wall light shaped as an upright tube: an anthracite-grey aluminium body joins two opal polycarbonate diffusers, one at the top and one at the bottom. Both diffusers move and rotate through 350°, so the light can be turned onto the wall for a glow above and below the fitting, or forward as a diffuse beam in front of it.
Size and installation
The light is 24.5 cm high and 7.8 cm wide, and it projects 12 cm from the wall. It runs on 220–240 V mains, and protection class I means the earth conductor must be connected. The IP54 rating protects against dust and against splashing water from any direction, so the light can hang on an exterior wall even where there is no roof over it. The manufacturer gives an ambient temperature range of -20 to 50 °C.
What light it gives
The source is an integrated 16.1 W LED module rated at 1620 lm; after passing through the opal diffusers the fitting delivers 950 lm. That is roughly what an old 75 W bulb gave, enough to light a front entrance and a stretch of wall around it. 3000 K is a warm white, and CRI 80 is the usual colour rendering for outdoor lighting. The fitting is not dimmable.
The manufacturer's manual states that the LED module is not replaceable, so when it reaches the end of its life the whole fitting is replaced. This version has no motion sensor; CYRA is also sold in a sensor variant.
Where it fits
The smooth, unornamented tube and the contrast of anthracite against milky-white diffusers give it a modern form. It suits a facade, where the moving diffusers let you choose whether the light picks out the wall or lights the space in front of it, and it also works on a balcony or on a fence with a masonry pillar.
