CABRERA C0041 is a round Mantra LED recessed downlight in matt white, with a flat aluminium trim and a recessed light-emitting area. It has a built-in 7 W LED module giving 540 lm of warm 3000 K light.
Fitting it in the ceiling
The cut-out is 95 mm across and the trim, about 10 cm wide, covers the edge of the hole. The fitting is held in the ceiling by two spring clips, visible in the manufacturer's photos. The body is flat, only a little over 3 cm high, so it also fits where there is little space above the board.
The fitting is protection class II and runs on 220–240 V; no earth conductor is connected to it.
What light it gives
540 lm is roughly what an old 40–50 W bulb gave. One downlight lights part of a room, and for a whole room several are installed at regular spacing. 3000 K is warm white, and a colour rendering index of Ra 80 is the standard for home lighting.
The LED module is built in and cannot be replaced. The manufacturer rates it at 30,000 hours and 30,000 switching cycles, which at a few hours a day means many years of use. The downlight is not dimmable, so it should not be connected to a dimmer.
Style and intended use
The smooth matt trim with no ornament is a minimalist form that almost disappears into a white ceiling once fitted. It suits living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, hallways and corridors, as well as offices, hotels and shops. The CABRERA series comes in 7, 12, 24 and 30 W versions, each in 3000 K or 4000 K, so one downlight form can be kept across rooms of different sizes.
