Nordlux FREMONT Black Tiltable LED Recessed Downlight 4.5 W 2700 K IP23

Nordlux FREMONT is a black, round recessed downlight with a built-in LED module. The trim is 8.5 cm across, and the insert holding the source tilts by 12° to aim the light slightly sideways, at a wall, a picture or a worktop. The pack contains one light.

Installing it in the ceiling

The ceiling needs a 72 mm hole. The board can be 5 to 15 mm thick, and at least 68 mm of free space is needed above it; two springs hold the light, so it is not screwed to the structure. The manufacturer's instructions call for at least 50 mm between lights and from obstacles, and the light must not be covered with insulation.

The L and N wires, 0.75–1.5 mm², push into the terminal without tools. The lights can be wired in parallel, running the supply from one to the next, up to 15 on one circuit, which simplifies cabling a whole row of downlights. FREMONT is Class II, so no earth conductor is needed.

What light it gives

The module draws 4.5 W and gives 345 lm at 2700 K, a warm, slightly yellowish light, with Ra 80. The 36° beam forms a distinct pool of light, so FREMONT works as spot lighting placed at several points in the ceiling rather than as a single light for a whole room.

It can be dimmed smoothly with an ordinary wall dimmer. The manufacturer rates it at 25,000 hours and gives a 5-year guarantee on the LED.

Where it fits

From below the light is rated IP23, meaning water drops falling at up to 60° from vertical do not affect it, but the part above the ceiling is IP20, so the void above the board must stay dry. The downlight is intended for living rooms, bedrooms, hotels and restaurants, and its black trim stands out clearly against a light ceiling.
