Halmstad 295CS is a garden bollard 49 cm tall in corten steel, for an E27 lamp up to 9 W, with an opal PMMA cover. Rated IP65 and IK10.
Corten – a material that changes
The CS version is corten steel: an alloy that deliberately develops a layer of rust. That is not a fault but a protective mechanism – the outer patina seals the material and stops further corrosion. Hence the rust-brown matt tone that sits naturally in a garden with timber, stone and ornamental grasses.
It helps to know how corten behaves: over the first months the tone deepens, and rainwater running off the surface can in that period stain pale concrete or paving beneath the fitting. On grass, in bark or in gravel the problem does not arise. It is an argument for setting the bollard a little back from the edge of a light-coloured terrace.
IK10 – impact resistance
The fitting carries impact class IK10, the highest on that scale: the housing withstands a 20-joule blow. On a bollard standing by a driveway, a path or the edge of a lawn that is not an abstract figure – mowers, bicycles and snow clearing are real loads here.
IP65 means fully dust-tight and resistant to water jets – the fitting will take pressure-washing of the paving as well as prolonged rain.
How it lights
The opal PMMA cover gives diffuse light. The manufacturer describes the distribution as exposed light, partly shielded from above – the bollard throws light sideways and down, and the shield limits part of the flux aimed at the sky.
The photometric data put it more precisely: classification BUG B0-U3-G1 and ULOR 48%. B0 means no spill light beyond the area and G1 a very low glare rating, but U3 and ULOR 48% say that close to half the flux goes upward. In practice: the fitting lights upward too, catching leaves and branches above it and creating a soft glow – but it is not a Dark Sky fitting, and where light-pollution rules apply this needs checking.
E27 – the choice is the buyer's
The fitting does not include a lamp and takes E27 up to 9 W in LED form. That gives freedom over colour: 2700 K under trees and beside a timber deck, 3000 K against a modern façade. For the same reason the lamp can be changed years later without replacing the bollard.
The gasket is silicone – a material that does not harden in frost and does not lose elasticity as quickly as rubber, which matters when the fitting is opened annually to change the lamp.
Installation
The base has 3 holes of ø9 mm set 120° apart on a ø65 mm circle. This is mounting onto a prepared foundation or anchor – the dimensions are worth transferring to a template before concreting, because once the anchors are set no correction is possible.
