Norlys Moss 6379ST outdoor recessed light, LED 8.4 W 3000 K 36°, stainless steel

The Moss 6379ST is a round recessed luminaire with a 13 cm stainless steel front and a tilting LED spot set in its centre. The body is powder-coated cast aluminium, and the LED module sits behind clear safety glass.

How it is installed

The fitting goes into a 110 mm hole and needs at least 85 mm of free depth behind it – a figure to check in the soffit, wall or ceiling before drilling. Only the 13 cm front stays visible; the 6.5 cm deep body disappears into the opening, where spring clips hold it in place.

A 0.3 m H05RN-F 3G1 cable leaves the luminaire and is connected to the mains in a suitably chosen junction box; the Norlys 145 connection box is sold separately. The luminaire is protection class I, so the protective earth conductor must be connected. IP65 means it is dust-tight and protected against water jets, so it can work outdoors with no roof over it. Norlys designed it for gardens, private grounds and architectural lighting; it suits a roof soffit, the garden and the surroundings of a house, as well as hotels and restaurants.

How much light it gives

The light source is an integrated 8 W LED module, and the whole luminaire draws 8.4 W. The module produces 840 lm, of which 687 lm leave the fitting – slightly less than an old 60 W bulb, but concentrated in a symmetrical 36° beam. According to the manufacturer, from 2 m away the beam forms a pool of light about 1.5 m across, and from 3 m about 2.2 m. The beam can also be tilted vertically, so a fitting recessed into a ceiling can be aimed at a wall, a tree or an entrance.

3000 K is warm white light, and CRI 80 is the usual colour rendering level for outdoor lighting. The luminaire is phase-dimmable and works with both trailing-edge (TE) and leading-edge (LE) dimmers.

Lifetime and servicing

Norlys rates the module at L70 59,000 h: after that time it still delivers at least 70% of its initial light output. At three hours a day, that is more than 50 years of use. The LED module is integrated but not disposable – it can be replaced only by a professional Norlys service, so a module failure does not mean replacing the whole luminaire.
