MAYA is an outdoor wall light built from three half-round stainless steel bands with two frosted glass slots between them. The fitting is 17.5 cm tall, 15 cm wide and stands 6.8 cm out from the wall. The lens of the motion sensor sits in the lower slot.
How much light it gives
The built-in LED module draws 18.5 W and produces 1900 lm, of which 1200 lm leaves the fitting through the glass slots. For comparison, an old 60 W incandescent gave around 800 lm, so this light actually lights an entrance rather than just marking where it is.
The colour is 3000 K, warm white and clearly warmer than ordinary street lighting. A colour rendering index of Ra 80 is enough at a door or on a driveway. The light source cannot be changed: the manufacturer lists it as non-replaceable, and at the end of its life the whole fitting is replaced. It is not dimmable.
How the motion sensor works
The PIR sensor covers 180 degrees, the full half-circle in front of the wall, and its detection range reaches 10 m. Compare that with the distance to your gate or parking space: movement further than 10 m from the fitting will not trigger it.
Where it can be mounted
IP44 means protection against splashing water from any direction, so the fitting belongs on a house wall, under an eave or on a covered part of a terrace, but not where it will be hosed down. The manufacturer gives an operating temperature range of -20 to +50 °C.
This is a Class I fitting, which means it has to be connected to an earth conductor. It must not be installed in a circuit without earthing. Supply is 220-240 V.
Build
The body is aluminium, the visible bands are stainless steel, and the slots are closed with frosted glass, which diffuses the light and does not yellow with age. Near the coast the manufacturer advises wiping the fitting regularly with a dry cloth and no detergents, because damp and salt speed up corrosion.
